The cottage is ideal for 2 , extremely well equipped and nicely furnished and very clean. We felt very at home during our stay. Location is isolated so very quiet, and around 15 minute drive to either Kirkby Lonsdale or Kirkby Stephen, both of which offer good dining options. Plenty to do in the area so a great holiday location. Only negative is the staircase cuts across the kitchen and the fridge access, so very easy to get a nasty clout on the head if not thinking when getting up (we know from experience!). Suggest some extra padding or red paint stripes to minimise the chances. Otherwise fully recommend.
We were on the way home from a short trip to Scotland and wanted a place to relax and unwind. The cottage was perfect and set in a lovely location with dark skies at night and no noise. It had everything we needed (and more) and was ideally situated for visiting the area. It was spotlessly clean and beautifully presented. We had outings to Holker Hall, Sizergh Castle, Levens Hall and The Westmoreland County Show. The weather was kind to us and the only rain was in the evening or overnight ( except for one horrendous day at the county show). At those times it felt good to be tucked up in the cottage and we could imagine a lovely stay in the colder months just to have the woodburner going. We did no walking on this visit but think some good routes would be available. We highly recommend Southerdale.
The semi-detached cottage for two was part of a group of farm buildings. It was very well equipped, warm, comfortable and clean. It is situated on the fellside, a mile from the main road, down single track lanes with few passing places so an ability at reversing may be useful. That said, there were few cars during May. There are ample places to eat nearby and good local walks on to the fells or down to the Lune. On one evening’s walk we saw two hares and heard and saw cormorants. One morning we heard the cuckoo calling near the cottage.
A return visit. Thoroughly enjoyable. Cosy, warm and inviting. Tony and Trish were most helpful and welcoming. We ran out of water following very heavy rain ( sounds implausible) but evidently the filters get blocked. Soon put right and no bother. Will hopefully return if they will have us!
