This was our third consecutive year booking with Mill House Cottages and this was quite possibly the best cottage yet! Just wow! A perfect house for us (a family of four) and we lived our dream lifestyle here for the week. Upon entering the cottage, we were bowled over by the amount of living space and the welcoming feel. The photographs on the website don't do it justice! Everything was spotlessly clean - as it should be. No expense has been spared with the beautiful decor, furnishings and high quality amenities. All the little details make such a difference too - from the gorgeous wall art and plush cushions /throws - to the waterfall taps and cute window shutters! The owners obviously have an eye for style and design. We loved the amazing shower in the main bathroom, the super comfy beds and the chef's dream kitchen. We also loved the stunning mediterranean courtyard. We were lucky to have plenty of fine dry weather which enabled us to spend some evenings sitting out here playing card games with a glass of fizz, and enjoying the ambience. Barbon is such a pretty and quiet villlage. The Barbon Inn is a lovely pub (we had a drink here) and the Churchmouse Deli is great for buying local produce or enjoying a coffee. We also made friends with the local horse and foal! The handsome market town of Kirkby Lonsdale is only 5 minutes drive and has a wonderful array of independent shops, cafes and top eateries. A must-do is to walk along the river and over Devil's Bridge, and also walk through the back of the churchyard to see Ruskin's View . The Milking Parlour serves up the most amazing homemade ice cream I've ever tasted and the queues here speak for themselves. We had a lovely meal out one evening at The Highwayman - highly recommended. There is fabulous walking and breathtaking scenery whichever way you turn. We drove into the Lake District a few times and bagged some more fells and went back to some of our favourite places - Windemere, Hill Top (Beatrix Potter's Farmhouse), Ambleside, Keswick and Grasmere. A highlight was the walk up to Easedale Tarn from Grasmere! There are also lots of lovely places to visit in the Yorkshire Dales too, including Ribblehead Viaduct, Hawes, and the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail. We also walked to the top of Pen Y Ghent! You can find lots of waterfall walks if you google the area! I really cannot think of anything negative....just the fact that we had to leave! I have no doubt that we will return. Thank you Rob and Elaine for sharing your beautiful home. Keep up the good work. We are very happy and satisfied guests. We will definitely be recommending this wonderful cottage to family and friends. ps. Maybe the addition of a hot tub would be the icing on the cake?! Julie, Martyn, Elena and Olivia Pretty
The Old Post Office is first class! The thought and care which has gone into presenting this cottage is evident. Thank you for a lovely stay.
We had a fantastic time, including walks and village events (Barton Hill Climb) just minutes from the front door. It’s had a very good renovation and retains its charm and many original features. Decoration was top notch. All the fixtures and fittings worked perfectly and it was well equipped with quality items. We didn’t test ‘customer service’ as apart from the booking site we needed no interaction during our stay. We shared the space with friends, another couple, and it is suitable for this in our opinion. The property does have a modern ‘almost spiral’ staircase to access upstairs and if I was being hyper critical anyone less able or with mobility issues may find this a bit trickier than a regular staircase. We thought it represented good value (per couple/per night) and was more versatile than similarly priced hotel/B&B stays. Parking in the road outside was easy and always available too. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed a cosy long weekend in this lovely cottage. It is situated in the centre of the village minutes from the inn and is beautifully presented with excellent finishing touches. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable lounge with log fire and two lovely bedrooms. The addition of a pantry cupboard for tins etc would add to excellent kitchen Care needs to be taken with the staircase, especially if you are elderly. Kirby Lonsdale has lots to offer and the area has many pleasant walks-gorgeous Autumn colours.
