With summer just around the corner, we’re busy plotting family-friendly adventures in and around the UK.

Few things capture the spirit of summer like a festival, which is why we’ve handpicked seven upcoming family-friendly summer festivals around the Lake District, Cumbria and Yorkshire.

From music and food to arts and the great outdoors, there’s something to suit everyone.

Summer Festivals in Yorkshire

Swaledale Festival

Dates: 24th May – 7th June 2025

Location: Various locations in the Yorkshire Dales

Swaledale Festival is a unique festival. It’s a celebration of music, arts, and walking events set in the stunning Yorkshire Dales.

The festival offers a diverse line-up, allowing you to find the familiar or try something new. Listen to classical, folk, jazz, and world music performances. Head on guided walks and join talks that discover the depths of the region’s rich cultural heritage.

Alternatively, immerse yourself in gripping storytelling, learn about foraging or take a photography masterclass. This festival is full of exciting opportunities you won't want to miss.

Ilkley Food & Drink Festival

Dates: 14th – 15th June 2025

Location: Ilkley, West Yorkshire

Does your family have a penchant for international cuisine? If so, the Ilkey Food & Drink Festival could be a delightful way to spend the weekend.

Pairing international street food with live music, you can expect live chef demonstrations, cuisine from across the globe, artisan produce markets and many sounds from a range of genres. There is also plenty of children’s entertainment – from magic shows to arts and crafts. All set in the charming town of Ilkley, it’s sure to be a captivating experience.

Yorkshire Dales Food & Drink Festival 2025

Dates: 18th–20th July 2025

Location: Funkirk Farm, Skipton, North Yorkshire

Spread over three days, this action-packed event will feature some of the UK’s top celebrity chefs alongside more than 250 food stalls. Bring your appetite, these stalls will have everything from gourmet cheese to small-batch spirits. There will be storytelling for children, circus school, live DJ sets and even a petting zoo.

Stay onsite or opt for a standard day or weekend ticket. You can also purchase tickets to a variety of masterclasses including a hands-on children’s chocolate-making experience where young chocolatiers can create (and taste) their sweet creations.

Summer Festivals in the Lake District

Keswick Museum Summer Fair

Date: 7th June 2025

Location: Keswick Museum, Keswick

If you’d prefer something more intimate, the Keswick Museum summer fair is a delightful option. There will be storytelling sessions, face painting, arts and crafts, and historical exhibits. Children can learn about the local heritage in a fun and engaging environment. Best of all, it’s completely free.

Tickets: Entry is free.

Lake District Summer Music Festival

Dates: 1st–10th August 2025

Location: Various venues across the Lake District

Now in its 40th year, this annual festival boasts a diverse range of musical performances, including classical, jazz, and world music.

This festival is a great way to introduce children to the magic of music, and there will be family-specific events held in Barrow, Windermere, and Grizedale. Concerts and workshops are part of the program, encouraging musical exploration for all.

Summer Festivals in Cumbria

Kendal Calling 

Dates: 21st July – 3rd August 2025

Location: Lowther Deer Park, near Penrith, Cumbria

Kendal Calling is a famous music festival in the beautiful Lake District. It has a diverse lineup on many stages and also happens to be one of our favourites.

More than just music, it also has art installations, world food, and a children's area called "Kids Calling". Kids Calling has oodles of activities to keep your little Kendal Callers entertained. Highlights include workshops, games, and creative activities. Perfect for children aged 0-12.

Solfest

Dates: 21st – 24th August 2025

Location: North Lakes Country Park, Silloth, Cumbria

Celebrating its 21st year, Solfest is the perfect festival for kids and grown-ups. Set in a remote location in Cumbria, it offers a vibrant range of music genres, arts, and family-friendly activities.

The festival prides itself on being fun for everyone, with multiple stages, indoor and outdoor workshops, and mouthwatering food options – ensuring a fun-filled experience for all.
