We had a great week to celebrate my birthday/halloween in this fabulous cosy cottage. Loved the open plan living space and cooking facilities. Made the most of the woodburning stove reading and doing a jigsaw when the weather was wet. Enjoyed exploring both Hawes and Sedburgh nearby - had great walks to Hardraw Force Falls and over the Howgill Fells. Farfield Mill was also worth the visit. It is a bit of a remote location so you do need a car but a great spot for re-charging the batteries and getting away from it all Many thanks
Grouse Hall is a wonderful place to spend a 2 week holiday. The remote setting, with great views from every window, was perfect for us. The peace and quiet with virtually no passing traffic was a real tonic. The house is very well maintained. It was well insulated and cosy with the central heating and log burners. The furniture is comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. The large entrance and utility area is very useful with lots of space for outdoor gear. The stars were amazing in the dark skies and when sitting out on the patio one night a barn owl flew silently past us, it was amazing. We could also hear other owls calling in the valley. The sheep and rabbits kept us entertained and we enjoyed watching passing birds of prey. The Carlisle to Settle railway is on the far side of the valley and we saw a steam train one day which was a bonus. Despite the remoteness you are half way between Sedbergh and Hawes with gives you plenty of scope for shops, pubs and restaurants although you will have to drive. The only improvement for us would be to have had a wardrobe and more coat hangers, with some storage for bags, particularly when staying for 2 weeks. We would not hesitate to return to Grouse Hall. Thank you to the owners and to Mill House Cottages, a great company. Thanks also to the housekeeping team for looking after things so well.
We spent a fantastic weekend at Grouse Hall. The weather was beautiful and it was a real treat to wake up to the wonderful views across the valley. The cottage is located just half a mile from the main road and feels very private yet is an easy trip to nearby Hawes and Sedburgh. The house is well equipped and provided all the luxury we could have wanted including fabulously comfy beds and well appointed kitchen and bathrooms. We look forward to returning and definitely recommend Grouse Hall.
We had a really wonderful week in Grouse Hall and the directions to find the cottage were clear and easy to follow. The cottage is nestled into the Dales and you wake up to beautiful scenery and the sounds of the Curlews calling, it is a really peaceful retreat surrounded by the rolling Dales which are beautiful. Grouse Hall was a delight to stay in and was very tastefully decorated and furnished and after a day out walking and exploring it was a treat to come back to a warm, comfortable and well equipped cottage. (The wood burners were a welcome source of heat and added to the ambience of the cottage and were easy to use ) There are many beautiful places to visit that are an easy distance from the cottage both in the Dales and the Lake District and so we were able to explore both and enjoyed the contrasting countryside. We had an amazing meal in the Black Bull in Sedbergh, this was one of the recommended restaurants, thank you. I would definitely recommend Grouse Hall as a luxury cottage to stay in if you are visiting the Dales. Thank you to Julie and Stephen.
Grouse Hall is a beautiful property. Modern, clean and the layout suited our visit perfectly. We particularly loved the open plan aspect of the property and the fire in the kitchen/dining/sitting area kept us very toasty! The views are amazing and in a great position for visiting other towns/villages nearby. We did a lovely round walk from the property. Would highly recommend. |
Grouse Hall has been lovingly restored. Very modern vibe but keeping lots of original character with everything you need for a weeks stay. Comfy, quiet and fantastic views. This was a great base for our party being near to Garsdale Station so we could use the excellent train service for a lot of our day trips. A thoughtful welcome pack was waiting when we arrived (tea, milk & wine!) and we experienced no problems. Highly recommended
Wow., Perfect., Such a lovely cottage with homely but modern interiors, and plenty of space for two couples and their cars to spend their joint anniversaries. We especially liked the large boot/utility area for soggy walking kit, as it inevitably rained a lot while we were there. Just what scabble and a glass of wine infront of the fire was invented for. But when the sun came out it was so worth it, the views are amazing. Would love to visit in the summer to fully appreciate. You feel remote and at one with the dales, yet have access to so many places to visit, villages, towns, waterfalls, castles all encased in a beautiful landscape... bliss. PS. there are some fantastic pubs to discover amongst them hills... hint: head up to Ravenstondale for a few or a pit stop at the Tan Hill, not to be missed.
An old stone cottage, beautifully modernised, away from it all, surrounded by sheep and birds. Everything is high quality and comfortable, well heated. There is lots of space throughout, with a porch for outdoor stuff plus a large utility area. Perfect for exploring the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. We would love to return.
