22 May 2018

There's always something to do during a trip to the Lake District, no matter what time of year you visit. Scenic walks, restaurants, water sports, cycling, family attractions... the list goes on.

The National Park and its surrounds also host some fantastic annual events, with something to suit all tastes. So, if you're looking at luxury holiday cottages in the Lake District this summer, have a read of our guide to what's happening this July and August and see if there's something that suits you.

For Music Fans

The Lake District Summer Music International Festival takes place from July 28th to August 10th 2018, with over 40 events taking place across the region. The programme is always diverse, and includes artists from across the globe.

For Water Lovers

The Derwentwater Regatta is a great opportunity to get out onto the water and try water sports you've never tried before. This year taking place on July 7th and 8th, it's a chance to try a whole host of activities at a fraction of the normal cost: think stand-up paddle-boarding, building your own coracle, taking a trip in a Viking longboat and more.

For Farming Fun

During the summer months, the Lake District plays host to all sorts of different agricultural shows - they're the mainstay of the region's summer events calendar. 10,000 people are expected at the Skelton Show on July 7th, while the Coniston County Fair on the 22nd includes all sorts of animal shows plus traditional Cumbrian sports. There are similar shows in Penrith, Cartmel, Keswick and more too.

For Dog Lovers

The Lake District is the perfect place to walk our furry friends while staying in a dog friendly holiday cottage - and there are two events in the summer months that dog lovers will enjoy too. The Ings Sheep Dog Trials will take place on August 22nd, while on August 25th, the Patterdale Dog Day is a lovely traditional event.
