Enjoy a Day Out in Kendal

The historic town of Kendal has so much to offer in terms of natural beauty, entertainment and amenities. There really is so much to see and do when you decide to spend a relaxing day in this quaint market town. Below we share some ideas on how to enjoy your day out in Kendal.

Shopping

There are two main shopping centres in Kendal, K Village which is located next to the river, and the Westmorland Shopping Centre. Both feature shops and cafes. Between the two is a long stretch of road that boasts independent shops and eateries. Then, branching off from the main road, are exquisite cobbled streets featuring quirky shops for you to explore.

Walk Along the River

If you are in Kendal then you can't escape the picturesque view of the River Kent. This river cuts through the centre of Kendal and offers you a pleasant riverside walk. People have been known to spot both otters and kingfishers along the river.

Visit Kendal Museum

This impressive building is located on Station Road and is run by informative and friendly staff. For a small entry fee, you can browse an impressive geology collection gathered from the local area by esteemed fell walker and famous guide book author, Alfred Wainwright who has given up his time for over 30 years. On the lower level, there is also a stunning collection of animals that have been gathered from all over the world, including tigers, antelope, bison, gazelles and pumas.

Evenings in Kendal

Kendal has so much to offer during the evening. The Brewery Arts Centre regularly shows the very latest cinema releases, plays, and live music acts. They run their programme throughout the year. The town centre is also home to a variety of pubs and restaurants.

Enjoy Sizergh Castle

Sizergh Castle is a pure delight to visit. This manor house sits in a vast estate compromising of walled gardens that you can also wander around. Guided tours are offered and during your visit the guides will share their expert knowledge of the history of the area with you. There are plentiful walks, a gift shop, and a cosy woodland cafe for you to enjoy!
