The first signs of Spring are a warm welcome, wherever you are in the world. As the cold, winter frost disappears and the first daffodils rear their heads, it truly feels like a time for new beginnings. For a Spring getaway, there's no better place than the Lake District, and there are four wonderful reasons why you should 'spring' to the Lakes during this beautiful season.

1. The World in Bloom

Spring brings with it the emergence of new life, new flowers, new blossoms. In the Lake District, you are so emerged in nature that you will experience all of this wonder, with breathtaking scenery and wildlife at every turn. Experience a burst of colour as vibrant yellow daffodils, beautiful bluebells and lush greens are emphasised by the soft Spring sun.

2. Enjoy Longer Days

With the lighter evenings rolling in you can enjoy longer days during the Spring. This means more time for gentle strolls, adventurous hikes, relaxing in pub gardens and visiting quaint village shops. When the sun eventually does die down, you'll be sure to witness glorious sunsets the cast the Lakes into a memorising glow that you will never forget.

3. Delicious Seasonal Food

The Lake District offers many fantastic restaurants and luxury pubs for visitors. You'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to places to eat and plenty come with the perfect view to accompany you. Chefs in the area are proud to use local, seasonal produce, so you can be sure to enjoy freshly cooked meals with seasonal flavours cooked to the highest standards.

4. Take to the Lake

If you're visiting the Lakes you may wish to actually take to the waters. Visit Bowness Bay Marina, where you can rent a boat and spend a day exploring the scenery from a new perspective. Just don't forget to stop for ice cream! A perfect Springtime activity.

The Yorkshire Dales has rightly gained a reputation for fantastic scenery but did you know that there's also plenty here for art lovers too? Make the most of your time in our luxury holiday cottages in Yorkshire Dales with our guide to some of the best art in the local area. We promise you a fabulously cultured escape.

Saltaire

Saltaire was originally a mill town but when the weavers moved out, the artists moved in. The town's original mill now boasts artists' studios and a gallery displaying an ever-rotating collection of works from local and international artists. Pieces by the renowned David Hockney have been displayed here and, for those unable to pick up a multi-million dollar piece of art during their trip, there's the chance to buy some works by up and coming local artists.

The gallery also boasts a café and a fantastic exhibition on the groundbreaking social history of Saltaire. Combined with the fabulous walks and views available in the local area, the town makes for a fabulous day out for all the family.

Wakefield

The town of Wakefield, lying slightly beyond the Dales, may not be your first thought when it comes to an art-inspired day out, but the Hepworth Gallery has been working hard to change that impression since it first opened its doors back in 2011. The gallery regularly hosts touring exhibitions that have sold out in London, Paris and other major cities. Be sure to check out the website before visiting as some of these exhibitions are ticketed and these tickets will often sell out at busy times such as weekends and school holiday periods.

Like Saltaire, there is a significant local aspect to the collection, and much of the art reflects the history and industry of the surrounding towns and villages. Thanks to fast train services, a trip to the gallery can be easily combined with time spent touring the galleries and museums of nearby Leeds.

We hope that our quick guide to the art of the Yorkshire Dales has shown that there is more to the area than simply the scenery, fantastic though it is!
