What’s On: Summer in the Lake District
With its stunning lakes and picturesque valleys, it’s not surprising that more and more people are choosing to take their summer holiday in the beautiful Lake District. It’s probably one of the most popular places in the UK when it comes to spending time in the outdoors; but there is a lot more to the lakes than just going for a long hike.
If you’re looking to spend a few hours, days or weeks in the Lake District this summer; you might want to make time for the following events and activities.
Discover the Dark Past of Carlisle
If you’re interested in taking in some history of Carlisle, whilst still having a little bit of fun, we suggest taking part in one of the spookily fantastic ghost tours. As you take a guided walk through the city centre, you’ll be treated to stories of murder, executions and ghostly appearances.
The tours start in June and take place every Thursday until October – so plenty of time over the summer to go and enjoy one!
Take in the Breathtaking Sights of the Lake District on a Gyroplane
If you think you’ve seen everything that the Lake District has to offer in terms of breathtaking scenery, you should prepare to be mesmerised. By taking a thrill seeking ride in a gyroplane, you’ll see the Lake District in a completely different way.
Flying with an experienced pilot, you’ll be given the opportunity to take control of your flight (it will be duel controlled obviously). If you don’t want the responsibility, sit back and take in the beautiful surroundings.
This activity is weather permitted; so it’s best enjoyed on a glorious sunny day!
Give Your Brain a Work Out at the Puzzling Place
If you’re looking for something different to do with the whole family, we suggest making time to visit the Puzzling Place, located in the heart of Keswick. With free admission to most of the building (and a small fee for the illusion room), you’ll find something to entertain and puzzle both adults and children alike.
Prepare to be amazed in the anti gravity room; where nothing seems to make sense. In the perceptive room, you will discover that people seem to be shrinking and growing before your own eyes – can you work out the reason why?
Try out a new Water Sport
The Lake District in the perfect location for those who enjoy water sports to have some fun! It’s even good for those who feel like trying their hand at water sports for the very first time. From canoeing to windsurfing, there are lots of opportunities to try something different. Whether a beginner or an expert, you can sharpen your skills and have something exciting to take away from your summer.
